Mandate is at the very heart of Manx Radio’s news and current affairs coverage.

With three editions each weekday, the programme sets the Island’s news agenda first thing and then follows all the main stories, on and off the Isle of Man, throughout the day, adding detail and background to the hourly bulletins.

Mandate AM – 07:30 to 08:30

More people on the Isle of Man start their day with this news programme than any other on the radio. John Moss is the regular host and as one of our most experienced journalists, he skilfully navigates through the burning issues of the day.

Mandate at One – 13:00 to 13:15

A comprehensive round up of news, sport and business, this fifteen-minute digest will bring you right up to date with national and international issues.

Mandate PM – 17:30 to 18:00

Rounds off the working day with a full update on all the main stories including details of how the major financial markets have fared and a look ahead to any sporting action coming up.

The three Mandates are the most listened to, the best known and the most trusted news and current affairs programmes on the Isle of Man. For the latest news from Manx Radio click here

Mandate

Douglas East by-election

 Permanent link

Ballot boxVoters in Douglas East are going to the polls today (Thursday) to elect a new member of the House of Keys.

There are just over 3,790 people registered to vote in the constituency and there is a field of six candidates, namely Kate Beecroft, Colin Cain, Chris Heath, Jon Joughin, Chris Robertshaw and Kevin Woodford.

It's been a long run-in to the election, which was triggered by the elevation of Phil Braidwood to the Legislative Council.

But, after weeks of campaigning, door knocking, public meetings and media interviews, the outcome is now in the hands of the voters.

On Mandate today, returning officer Chris Cope told Marian Kenny ensuring the democratic process goes ahead without incident has been quite an undertaking:

There are five polling stations which are open until 8pm.

Votes will be counted at Douglas Town Hall, with the result expected some time after 10 pm.

Manx Radio will be there, reporting into our programmes tonight, and we hope to have the new MHK for Douglas East live in the Mandate studio tomorrow (Friday) morning.
