Demand for high street travel shops

Online shopping has had a disastrous impact on some traditional high street retailers - and has been the making of others.  

Overheads and staffing costs brought about the demise of many travel firms with walk-in shops. Adapt or die has been stark reality for the sector.

As travellers scan the internet for the best deals to build their own holiday packages, agents keen to tap their local market with a physical presence have had to reinvent themselves.

Island based Richmond and Mann Link Travel, with stores in Douglas and Ramsey, are marking 35 years in business.

From tailor-made tours marketed and sold online to helping customers browse brochures, the business believes service is their USP.

Chairman of parent firm Online Regional Travel Group Brian Kelly started the enterprise with a phone, calculator and notepad in an attic on Finch Road in 1982.
