£10.3million of funding sought for Manx Care recovery programme

Health minister says initiative 'not affordable' with current budget

Tynwald will be asked next month to approve more than £10million in funding to help with Manx Care's programme of elective restoration and recovery.

Health and Social Care Minister, Lawrie Hooper, will ask for £10.3million to help complete the programme when the court meets for its next sitting from 16-18 May.

It means unspent funds from last year's supplementary vote will be rolled over, as supplementary vote funding has to be used within the financial year in which it is approved

The project is aiming to reduce waiting lists for general surgery in areas including complex cataracts, opthalmology and orthopaedics.

In his motion to go before the court, Mr Hooper says completing the programme is 'currently not affordable within the existing Tynwald approved budget'.
