£300 fine for man who had to be restrained outside hotel

31-year-old told not to argue with police officers

A Douglas man has been fined £300 and warned not to argue with the police.

Ashley Graham Kelly, of Strand Street, was arrested outside the Premier Inn on 24 June.

Officers found him being restrained outside the Market Street venue by staff at 2.40am – he was intoxicated and when they took over he began shouting and swearing and was taken to the floor.

The 31-year-old admitted being drunk and disorderly during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse.

Fining him, and ordering him to pay £125 in prosecution costs, High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told him: “It’s never a good idea, when you’ve had a few drinks, to start arguing with policemen.”

She also imposed a three-month licensing ban and converted 100 hours of community service imposed for a previous offence, which hadn’t been completed, to an £800 fine.
