Addiction service's future in doubt

Regulation changes cuts charity funds

A non-profit service providing help to local gambling addicts says doubt has been cast on its short term future.

GamCare Isle of Man - a part of Motiv8 Addiction Services - was formerly funded by means of a tax on local gaming operators.

But changes in the regulations now mean that money is passed directly to the UK's Gambling Commission - and charities back at home don't see a penny.

The service, which launched in 2011, has since secured independent funding for a further year.

But Motiv8 services director Thea Ozenturk says there's uncertainty beyond that:
