Amnesty praises Manx gay marriage law

Northern Ireland only part of UK barring same sex unions

A major human rights organisation has praised the Isle of Man following the legalisation of gay marriage.

The Marriage and Civil Partnership Act received Royal Assent last week and same-sex unions have now been legal on the Island since Friday.

It means Northern Ireland is the only part of Britain where gay marriage remains outlawed.

Head of Nations and Regions at Amnesty International, Patrick Corrigan, says it sends out a strong message to the wider community.
