Applications open for new Youth Select Committee

New Committee to tackle issues impacting young people on the Isle of Man

Applications are now open for a new Youth Select Committee.

It'll be made up of 5 members aged 15-24 who will tackle issues impacting young people on the Isle of Man.

The chosen ones will be recruited by the Clerk of Tynwald’s Office and given training.

The Committee, which will mirror the current Committees structure of Tynwald, will be supported with research and the calling of witnesses through written evidence and a public oral evidence session, they'll then finish the inquiry with a final report to be produced and presented to Tynwald.

Engagement Services Executive Julia Cullen plans and runs the annual Junior Tynwald.

She says it's "encouraging to see how passionate young people on the Isle of Man are about the issues they face alongside their peers and the wider community.

We believe that a Youth Select Committee will provide a platform to equip young people with the skills and opportunities to influence changes on the Island, and a signal to young people that their voices matter.”

Speaker of the House of Keys, Juan Watterson SHK added how "important it is that our youth are given an opportunity to be involved in Manx politics on a regular basis."

Applications will close on Wednesday 11th October 2023 and successful applicants will be notified that month.

If you are interested in applying for the Youth Select Committee or you’d like to find out more, you're asked to email Julia Cullen on enquiries@tynwald.org.im.

You can also attend a Drop-In session on Wednesday, 27 September between 12:30-1:30pm or Thursday, 28 September 4-5:30pm in the Legislative Buildings. There, you can meet the team, ask any questions and complete an Application Form.
