Brexit debate in Tynwald

Potential impact on Island significant says CM

The implications for the Isle of Man of the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union have been outlined by the Chief Minister.

Howard Quayle told Tynwald the impact will be potentially significant and long-lasting as he updated members on the ongoing work by the Council of Ministers assessing how the Island will be affected.

Mr Quayle highlighted potential barriers when trading in agricultural and manufactured goods and freedom of movement of people between the UK and the European Union which, he said, is likely to be restricted or reduced.

He told Tynwald the Island could not expect to gain the right to free trade without having to meet certain obligations.
