Bride gears up for local authority election

Smallest parish prepares for contest

The smallest local authority on the Island is gearing up for an election to replace more than half of its members, following a mass resignation earlier in the year.

Six people from the village of Bride will take part in the contest tomorrow (22 Feb) with three spots up for grabs on the board of commissioners.

Village residents Julie Billingsley, Ann Carter, Ian Colquitt, Julie Corteen, Joseph Monro and Jacqueline Turner will all stand in the election.

It was called following the resignations of Ian Beech, Jim Crook and Maureen Hodgson in January, over disagreements with the clerk.

Bride Church Hall has been chosen as the polling station, with residents able to cast their vote until 8pm.
