Burglar stole more than £9K of goods in Gadget Mann raid

21-year-old will be sentenced in October

A Douglas man will be sentenced in October after admitting breaking into an electronics shop and stealing more than £9,000 worth of goods.

Twenty-one-year-old Alexander Kinrade, of Keppel Road, burgled Gadget Mann in the early hours of 3 August.

At Douglas Courthouse today (23 August) he also admitted being in possession of an offensive weapon on the same date.

Kinrade was seen on CCTV, in Strand Street in Douglas, at 4.05am – 25 minutes later he was spotted sitting on a bench outside the shop which buys and sells second hand goods.

At 4.35am Kinrade was seen kicking the door and windows before removing a knife from his trousers which he used to try and force entry; he then smashed a window and entered the property.

As the shop’s security alarm sounded Kinrade proceeded to steal thousands of pounds worth of electronic items including a camera, mobile phones and a laptop.

The court heard Kinrade used a guitar to smash a display cabinet and, in total, caused more than £6,800 worth of damage to the shop.

After leaving with his stolen items Kinrade was then seen returning for a second time, at 5.05am, where he proceeded to steal more items including the drawer from the till.

This was later found discarded near the Manx Museum.

Kinrade went on to destroy several of the stolen items, in a field in Willaston, including an Apple laptop; he also set fire to the clothes he was wearing at the time of the offence.

The remaining goods were sold on and there were no items recovered at Kinrade’s home address.

A social enquiry report has been requested before Kinrade is sentenced on 11 October at the Summary Court with High Bailiff Jayne Hughes warning him: "It is undoubtedly a serious offence."

Bail was granted until that date.
