Change of plea from teen who threatened ex-girlfriend

19-year-old will be sentenced for domestic abuse offence

A teenager from Douglas will be sentenced next month after threatening to slit the throat of his ex-partner’s new boyfriend.

Jonjo Watson, of Marathon Road, had previously denied committing a domestic abuse offence but changed his plea at Douglas Courthouse.

The 19-year-old admitted displaying behaviour which could or did cause physical or psychological harm to his former girlfriend between 30 June and 21 August.

The court heard he’d sent multiple messages to the mother of his child threatening to take their child to the United Kingdom.

On 20 August Watson began following the woman, their child and her partner, through Douglas in his vehicle.

He then made numerous phone calls to her asking who the man was and threatening to harm him, before accusing the woman of taking drugs whilst driving and calling her ‘psychotic’.

A social enquiry report has been requested before Watson is sentenced on 12 December; he’s been bailed until that date.

Update: At Douglas Courthouse on 12 December Watson was handed an 18-month probation order and ordered to pay £300 in prosecution costs. A Domestic Abuse Protection Order was also imposed.
