Closed Heritage Trail sees some ignore barriers

The Department of Infrastructure says some have been continuing down the path before being turned back by their team

The Heritage Trail between Glen Vine and Union Mills remains closed for maintenance works, but despite the closure, some people have been ignoring the barriers.

Highway Services says the path is also impassable outside of working hours, which is in place to ensure everyone's safety whilst work is being carried out.

Public Rights of Way is replacing a wooden bridge at the Union Mills end of the path due to a 'considerable' gap which had deteriorated and is at the end of its 'useful life'.

It's hoped the new bridge will be of stronger construction and be 'more serviceable', allowing easier access to maintenance teams in future.
