Committal hearing after fatal accident

Engineer died after accident on Kirk Michael work site

The case of a company which admits responsibility for an accident which cost a Douglas man his life is due to return to court this afternoon (Tuesday).

UK specialist firm Tuke and Bell Ltd pleaded guilty to a lapse in workplace safety standards following the death of Gareth Sowden in May 2013.

The 55-year-old mechanical engineer was working on a sewage treatment project in Kirk Michael.

He suffered fatal injuries after he was trapped under a shipping container.

A committal hearing is due to be held at Douglas courthouse at 2.30pm.
