Concerns raised about the cleanliness of some buses

Reports drivers apologising about the state of their vehicles

Concerns have been raised about the cleanliness of some of the buses operating on the Isle of Man.

It appears that not all of the Island’s public transport is currently spick and span – and Manx Radio understands that bus drivers are apologising for that.

Before some journeys last week some drivers reportedly apologised to passengers about the state of their vehicles – alluding to a dispute between the Department of Infrastructure and Unite the Union.

It’s been alleged there isn’t a cleaner assigned to look after buses based in Port Erin.

Chanelle Sukhoo went to the southern village to find out first-hand, from the travelling public, if they felt there was an issue:

Manx Radio has contacted Unite - as well as the DoI – for clarity over the alleged position; we’ve not heard back from either.

One man who is perhaps more in the know than most … is the former Infrastructure Minister Chris Thomas.

He says whilst he can’t comment on the dispute itself he is aware that tensions have been building and says morale in the bus service was much worse 18 months ago:
