Proposed strategy to remodel service
Government is asking the Manx public for feedback on proposed changes to eye care.
A six-week consultation has been launched by the Department of Health and Social Care on proposals to modernise eye care on the Island.
It follows a similar exercise held on the 'National Health and Care Service Scheme', which contained plans to change the frequency of the tests to once every two years, with a £10 contribution towards each
The Department says it spend more per head of population on eye health than the English NHS, most on sending those with rare conditions off-Island for treatment.
It's proposing a strategy focused on remodelling the service so patients no longer need to travel across.
Department officials claim this can be achieved by either improving skills among staff, or extended partnerships with off-Island providers.
Other plans include changes to the frequency of eye tests to once every two years rather than annually, meaning more time for high street optometrists to tackle minor conditions.
The consultation runs until Monday 27 November, and is available at consult.gov.im
