Covid support being reviewed on 'case-by-case' basis

Treasury now re-calling money claimed 'fraudulently'

More than £110 million of Covid support handed to businesses over the pandemic is being reviewed on a ‘case-by-case’ basis.

Treasury has launched a 20-day amnesty to encourage people who took money they weren't eligible for to pay it back.

Minister Dr Alex Allinson has told Manx Radio initial vetting of claims included checking the businesses were based on Island.

His department is now threatening sanctions on businesses that did act fraudulently – people who suspect others of fraud are urged to report them to the authorities.

Dr Allinson says he doesn’t believe the issue is widespread.

But why weren't these checks carried out before hand?:

The amnesty will end on 4 August.

Individuals and businesses who believe they made a claim under any of the Coronavirus support measures in error should contact the Coronavirus Review Team by email at csr@gov.im or telephone on 685748.
