Minister grips demand for upgrade
Resurfacing work on a section of Douglas Promenade is to start before Christmas.
The new Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer told Tynwald there was an 'urgent need' and an 'appetite for decisive action' to renovate the roadway.
Mr Harmer admitted resurfacing was a short-term fix, but said the northern end of the promenade was in an 'unacceptable condition' and the work would offer respite for motorists.
The Minister intends to consult with colleagues and come forward with final plans for the whole promenade but acknowledged no solution will meet the aspirations of all parties.
Horse trams would either run the full length of the promenade on the current tracks or relocated on the seaward side:
