Breakdown revealed after Onchan MHK probe

Officers and politicians within the Department of Health and Social Care have claimed almost £4 million in expenses over the last five years.

The figures have been revealed in a question from Onchan MHK Julie Edge.

She wanted to see a breakdown of all expenses claimed in each of the last five years by politicians and officers working for government departments, boards and offices.

The DHSC has consistently claimed the highest expenses year on year since 2012.

With an average claim of over £791,000 per year since 2012/13, the Department of Health and Social Care's annual expense claim figure is higher than the total for the last five years from any other department.

Its five year total is more than double that of the departments of the former Community Culture and Leisure, Economic Development, Environment Food and Agriculture, Home Affairs, Infrastructure, Treasury and the Cabinet Office put together.

The next highest spending department, the Department of Education and Children, spent just under £750,000 over the five year period, followed by Infrastructure on just over £500,000.

The lowest expense claim figure listed is for government house which, over a five year period, has claimed just £620 in expenses.
