Disability respite unit won't meet legal requirements for two years

Radcliffe Villas site set to be replaced with purpose-built facility

The Island's only adult disability respite facility won't meet the legal requirements for care for at least two years.

A planning application has now been submitted to replace the current unit, at Radcliffe Villas in Douglas, with a new purpose-built one.

If the plans are approved it could be completed by the middle of 2024.

Sally Shaw, Manx Care's executive director of social care, said: "Manx Care aims to deliver high quality social care services in buildings that are not only compliant with the Regulation of Care Act but also reflect the assessed needs of vulnerable people.

"Respite care is an essential service that provides support to families and carers of those vulnerable adults with a learning disability who have the most complex and challenging needs; therefore it is vital that the environment is fit for purpose."
