Don't throw caution to wind, say firefighters

Freak weather is an all-too-familiar sight in December

Storm Barbara approaching Island

The Fire and Rescue Service has released a set of tips on limiting the damage expected to be wrought by Storm Barbara tomorrow.

Gusts of up to 70 miles per hour are expected at peak times, as adverse conditions strike between 8am and 3pm on Friday.

The message - don't go out unless you have to, and stay well away from harbours and sea walls.

Homeowners are also reminded to secure loose or unstable objects outdoors, such as bins and lawn furniture.

If damage does occur - lifted roof tiles and the like - officers say you shouldn't try to repair it until the weather has completely settled.

Finally, there's a reminder to stay tuned for updates via the usual local media channels.

Manx Radio will bring you the latest as it happens tomorrow and across the Christmas weekend.
