Ceremony at midday today
At midday, Saint Mary of the Isle Church in Douglas will be elevated to cathedral status.
The Archbishop of Liverpool alongside the Pope's representative will join dignitaries from the Isle of Man Government and Douglas City Council.
It will become co-cathedral to the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King in Merseyside, and will be the first Catholic co-cathedral in the British Isles.
'It's a link which will always be visible because two pieces of Manx art are going to be created - one for The Church of Saint Mary of the Isle, in Douglas, and another for the cathedral in Liverpool.'
Manx Radio's Judith Ley says it will be a special occasion, uniting both diocese:
Monsignor John Divine, Parish Priest of St Mary of the Isle, and Dean of the new cathedral, said today's celebrations will have a 'Manx flavour'.
The Lord's Prayer will be read in Manx Gaelic and the Manx national anthem will be sung.
It's said it will 'raise consciousness of the Isle of Man within the Archdiocese of Liverpool'.
