Douglas firework display taking place tonight

Companies should get more involved in Island events says businessman

A prominent businessman says it's important for companies on the Island to get involved in community events.

Celton Manx has been sponsoring Douglas Council's firework show for 11 years and chief executive Bill Mummery believes it's beneficial for them.

The fireworks will be lit from a barge moored opposite the war memorial, and will be broadcast to music, from 7pm (November 3), on Manx Radio's DAB, FM and AM service.

Mr Mummery says supporting the display is way of saying thank you to the community:

People are encouraged to watch the show from the war memorial on the promenade where food outlets will be located.

A best guy competition, with prizes of £100, £50 and £25 will also take place, will be judged by the Mayor of Douglas Natalie Byron-Teare at 6.40pm.

The council is also asking members of the public to avoid Douglas and Onchan Head as it causes heavy congestion on the roads.
