Douglas man fined after punching doorman

49-year-old pleads guilty to common assault and disorderly behaviour on licensed premises

A Douglas man who assaulted a doorman at a bar has been fined £1,100.

Hristo Georgiev Stoyanov of Church Road Marina admitted punching a member of security at Jaks Bar and Steakhouse in the face.

The court heard door staff were called to the bar at around 12.30am on 20 August as Stoyanov was behaving aggressively, having bumped into other customers and pushed to the front.

While trying to remove the 49-year-old from the bar area, the doorman was struck in the face, resulting in his denture being removed.

Appearing at Douglas Courthouse, Stoyanov pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour on licensed premises and common assault.

A report from the probation service stated Stoyanov is deeply sorry for his actions, and that it was not his intention to cause harm.

Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood imposed a £600 fine for the disorderly behaviour conviction and £500 for the assault, as well as awarding £125 prosecution costs.
