Driving ban for man caught doing almost 100mph in 50 zone

21-year-old was followed by undercover police

A Glen Vine man has been banned from the road after being caught travelling at almost 100 miles per hour by undercover police.

Christian Louis Callister, of Park Close, was nearly double the legal speed limit when he was stopped on 27 May.

Officers had followed the 21-year-old onto Braaid Road just after midday – their unmarked car struggled to keep pace with his Honda Civic.

At Douglas Courthouse Callister admitted breaking the 50mph speed limit.

Callister’s advocate said his client was aware he was being followed and felt ‘intimidated’ adding when he’d turned onto the straight stretch of road: “He put his foot down, shall we say.”

“That stretch of road has very few houses or human activity,” he added.

Describing Callister’s speed as ‘very excessive’ High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told him: “There are obvious dangers for anyone travelling at such a high speed.”

Handing him 10 penalty points, which sees him disqualified for six months under the totting up procedure, Callister was also fined £400 and ordered to pay prosecution costs of £50.
