Driving ban for man who crashed friend's car causing £6K of damage

43-year-old had no licence or insurance

A Castletown man has been banned from the road after crashing his friend’s car and causing £6,000 worth of damage.

Michael Craig Fitzgerald Pereira, of Athol Terrace, hit another vehicle on Arbory Road in the early hours of 8 April.

The 43-year-old later admitted driving without due care and attention, failing to stop after an accident and having no driving licence or insurance.

During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse the court heard Pereira had dropped the car he’d been in back to his friend before returning to the scene to try and clear up; he later handed himself into police.

Noting his licence had expired 12 years ago Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood told him: "It’s obviously been a significant collision."

Fining him £2,150, and ordering him to pay compensation of £1,000, she disqualified him for 12 months and until he’s taken and passed an extended test.

Pereira was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £125.
