Driving ban for woman who got behind wheel drunk

24-year-old was more than double the legal limit

A Douglas woman has been banned from the road for three years after getting behind the wheel after a drunken argument.

Gemma Natasha Rogers, of Cronk-Y-Berry Avenue, admitted drink driving during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse.

Police were called to North Quay, at 3am on 1 July, after the 24-year-old was seen in her Ford Fiesta – they stopped her on Bath Place; she was unsteady on her feet and had bloodshot eyes.

Rogers failed a roadside breath test and she was arrested and taken to Police Headquarters; subsequent tests showed she was more than double the legal limit.

Her advocate told the court her client had been out with friends after ‘an incredibly difficult few months’ adding she’d had a disagreement with one of them and ‘just wanted to get out of there’.

“She accepts this was very silly and she is sorry,” the advocate added.

Describing the reading as ‘a high one’ High Bailiff Jayne Hughes fined Rogers £1000 and ordered her to pay prosecution costs of £125.

Rogers will also have to pass an extended driving test and drink drive rehabilitation course.
