Fine for Douglas man who fell asleep at Villa Marina

39-year-old ignored attempts by police to wake him

A Douglas man who fell asleep at the Villa Marina after a night out during Manx Grand Prix has been fined £150.

Robert John Bell, of Richmond Grove, was found slumped against the wall just after 5am on 26 August.

Police made ‘countless attempts’ to rouse the 39-year-old but he ignored them and an ambulance was called.

At Douglas Courthouse he admitted being drunk in a public place.

Bell’s advocate said he’d been out drinking and had taken shelter in the colonnade from a ‘deluge of rain’ on his way home but had fallen asleep: “That’s the last thing he remembers,” he added.

Ordering him to pay prosecution costs of £125 Magistrates told him: “You were in such a state that necessitated calling an ambulance out.”
