36-year-old caught using mobile phone whilst driving
A Douglas man who was caught taking photos of police working in a forensic tent has been fined £600.
Ryan Jordan Moore, of Linden Gardens, filmed the scene as he drove past at around 10.30am on 16 March.
At Douglas Courthouse the 36-year-old admitted using a mobile phone whilst driving and displaying no R-Plates.
The court heard officers were dealing with a sudden death on Banks Howe and, after spotting Moore, followed him back to the construction site he was working on.
He showed them the photos he’d taken telling them: “It looked like a murder scene and I just wanted to get some snaps for the boys.”
Moore’s advocate told magistrates: “What do you say? It’s such a catastrophically stupid thing to do isn’t it?”
Describing the groundworker as ‘naive’ he added: “He got excited seeing something that looked like CSI on the end of the street. There was no chance he was ever going to get away with it.”
He said Moore's actions were done ‘without malice’ adding he’d also forgotten to put his R-plates on the work van when he’d been told ‘to nip out for the tea’.
Magistrates ordered Moore to pay prosecution costs of £50 and endorsed his licence with four penalty points.
