Fine for Douglas woman after 'bizarre' behaviour in early hours

Advocate describes incident as 'one-off blip'

A Douglas woman has been fined £500 after getting into an argument with a group of teenagers in the early hours of the morning.

Cara Marie Reed, of Koinney Avenue, encountered them on Spring Valley Road at 1am on 27 May.

She was walking towards them covered in blood – when they moved out of her way the 24-year-old ran after one of them shouting: “Have you got a problem?”

She then attempted to remove her belt, took one of their phones and, when police arrived, encouraged the teenagers not to speak to them.

At Douglas Courthouse Reed pleaded guilty to an offence of provoking behaviour.

Reed's advocate said she was ‘remorseful for her conduct’ adding: “She accepts that she was in the wrong.”

Describing how she’d suffered a significant cut to her hand he added: “Miss Reed had endured a troubled evening – not of her own making.”

Instructing her to pay prosecution costs of £500 Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood told Reed: “Your behaviour was really quite bizarre.”
