Fine for TT visitor caught flouting 30mph speed limit

34-year-old clocked at 68mph on early morning ride

A TT visitor has been handed eight penalty points after being caught riding his motorbike at more than double the speed limit.

Anthony Elmey, of Micklefield Road in High Wycombe, was clocked doing 68 miles per hour in a 30 zone on 27 May.

Police stopped the 34-year-old, who was riding a Honda Fireblade, on Main Road in Sulby after recording him breaking the speed limit just before 7am.

When they told him how fast he’d been going he remarked: “Oh my god.”

At Douglas Courthouse Elmey admitted speeding – his advocate told the court it was a ‘complete lapse of judgement’ adding: “He is very remorseful.”

Fining Elmey £380, and ordering him to pay £50 in prosecution costs, High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told him: “The speed limit is there for a reason – even early in the morning.”
