Flood defence works continue in Laxey

Isle of Man Flood Hub reports 'excellent' progress

The latest phase of work to strengthen flood defences in Laxey is underway.

River bank construction work is continuing on a section of Glen Road - completion is expected by April this year.

Further works - to run a drainage pipe from the Laxey Glen upper car-park to Baldhoon Road - and detailed investigations following a collapsed area of river bank at Cooil Road are also scheduled.

In its latest bulletin the Isle of Man Flood Hub reports that ‘excellent’ progress has been made with work to run a section of drainage pipe through the Laxey Glen Gardens and up to the Laxey Pavilion carpark.

Work installing the pipe will continue to link up with Baldhoon Road - probably in early March.

Meanwhile the work on Cooil Road to investigate a labyrinth of underground drainage tunnels and waterways is continuing with the help of Manx Heritage.

A temporary road has been constructed for residents and the collapsed area has been cordoned off for safety.
