Flooding closes roads

Heavy rain continues

Heavy rain is causing major disruption around the Island today. (Wed 22)

The whole of the Mountain Road has been closed due to flooding as has the A3 between the Hope and Mines Road in Foxdale, where there has also been a landslide.

The A3 between Ballig Bridge and Kirk Michael has been closed after the river burst it's banks around Glen Helen, the Liverpool Arms Straight from the Garey Road to Groudle Road is passable with care now, but the Groudle Road itself to King Edward Bay is closed as is the bridge between Dalby and the Roundtable.

A short time ago Tromode Road Douglas was closed as the river is about to burst its banks and Tesco car park is apparently flooded and they’re not letting any cars in.

The main road between Peel and Patrick is closed, as is the road between Patrick and St John's.

The rather appropriately named Lake Road in Peel has also been closed until at least 4pm today.

Buses are unable to serve any stops on the main road Lower Foxdale at this time.

Due to a road closure service 4 is diverted from Foxdale School to Glen Darragh Road and St Johns and vice versa.

However, Service 3 has now resumed it's normal route.

The DOI say sandbags are available (free of charge) from amenity sites around the island #iom

Police are currently (as of 11am) advising drivers to avoid all but essential journeys.

Rainfall totals of 25 to 30mm are expected, with a risk of 40 to 50mms over the hills.

Gale force south to southwest winds could lead to problems at high tide both at lunchtime (1.25pm) and overnight (1.45am).

This is likely to bring waves and debris onto exposed roads - with Shore Road - Rushen, Castletown Promenade and the northern part of Douglas Prom particularly at risk. And the high winds could lead to problems for tomorrow's ferry crossings.

The Steam Packet says the 8.45 am Heysham sailing tomorrow (Thurs) and its return at 2.15 are subject to disruption and possible cancellation.

A decision on the morning sailing will be taken at 7am tomorrow.

The public is being reminded that sandbags are available free of charge from public amenity sites around the Island and flood there's the flood assistance call line 850000
