GDPR concerns raised over Manx Care's plans for appointment letters

Trial will see Isle of Man Post Office printing and sending correspondence

A Marown commissioner says residents on the Island should've been consulted about Manx Care's plan to have the Isle of Man Post Office print hospital letters.

Alison Lynch says she has concerns about GDPR protection for patients' personal and medical information.

Manx Care has confirmed that 'all necessary' information governance safeguards have been completed - further information is likely to be issued next week.

It's trialling the change as part of efforts to reduce the number of missed appointments

Mrs Lynch is urging people to contact their MHKs if they are unhappy:

A spokesperson from the Isle of Man Post office said: “Isle of Man Post Office is an ISO 27001 (Information Security Management) and ISO 9001 (Quality Management System) accredited mailing house which follows the strictest international industry standards, which include compliance requirements of GDPR, to undertake secure mailings for its clients.”
