Islands Energy Group hopes to follow festival's lead by 'creating value from waste'
How Glastonbury uses sustainable energy could be a 'blueprint' for the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.
That's from the Islands Energy Group - the parent company of gas supplier Isle of Man Energy - following the recent music festival in Somerset.
IEG says it's actively exploring the potential of bringing biogas to the Islands, something the Worthy Farm site uses to generate electricity.
The company hopes it can follow Glastonbury's lead, adding that the festival has shown it's possible to create value from waste.
While it concedes the cost of the technology used is high, IEG says if Glastonbury can use it in a sustainable way, then there is great hope for the Islands.
The 2023 edition of the music festival was the first to be run entirely on renewable energy, with the site also using eco-friendly toilets and recycling more than 100 tonnes of glass, cans and plastic bottles.
