Historic moment for Island's top police officer

A historic swearing-in of the Island's new Chief Constable takes place on Friday.

Gary Roberts took over the top job in the force on New Year's day, becoming the first Manx chief and the first officer to achieve the ultimate promotion, having served in every other rank in the Isle of Man Constabulary.

Forty-nine year old Mr Roberts beat-off competition from a field of off-Island candidates, following the decision of his predecessor Mike Langdon to retire after five years at the helm.

Chief Constable Roberts will be formally sworn-in at a ceremony at the Courts of Justice in Douglas on Friday afternoon.
