Island 'could do more' to tap into sports tourism

Hundreds of travelling fans visited for FC IoM match last weekend

The Isle of Man 'could do more' to tap into sports tourism and attract more visitors.

That's the belief of a local business after a hundreds of football supporters travelled to Manx shores last weekend to watch FC Isle of Man vs Bury AFC at The Bowl.

Paul Henry is the director of the Pinewood Social Club, in Pulrose, which has been a hub for both home and away fans.

He says the business generated has sometimes been the difference between making a profit or a loss:

​Meanwhile a Douglas business which saw increased footfall from the travelling football fans has told Manx Radio hosting larger sporting events would be 'fantastic' for the economy. 

In previous years the Isle of Man has hosted sports festivals for the likes of football, hockey and rugby attracting teams from the UK.
