Isle of Man's projected 'housing need' to be published soon

MHK appeals for the Council of Ministers not to delay publication of report

Results from a study looking at the Isle of Man's future housing requirements is expected to be published soon.

The 'Objective and Assessment of Housing Need' (OAHN) models scenarios between 2037 and 2041 which hope to equip the government with a picture of housing 'need'.

Housing 'need' is defined as those who 'need assistance through social rent or subsidised access to the private sector such as the Shared Equity Purchase Assistance Schemes'.

The work is understood to be driven by 'future household growth' and assumed levels of net migration; it will also factor in 'unmet needs'.

If government's ambition to grow the population is successful the Island would be home to 100,000 residents by 2037.

The OAHN is referred to in Cabinet Office's 'Island Spatial Strategy Options' which published evidence relating to 'national goals'.

Earlier this week, in the House of Keys, Douglas South MHK Claire Christian appealed for the Council of Ministers to release the report into the public domain as soon as they receive it.

Chair of the Housing and Communities Board David Ashford says the work will be discussed in the board's mid-April meeting but believes it'll allow government to 'move the housing position forward':
