Major fines for visiting fishermen

Total of £45,000 to be paid in compensation

Two more fishing boat skippers and the companies which own the vessels have been fined a total of £67,000 for illegal fishing in Manx waters.

The men from Dumfries and Workington are the latest to fall foul of authorities for violating fishing laws.

Only last week, a member of the Island's Scallop Management Board was prosecuted for illegal fishing.

James Davis has the details.

Dumfries based companies George Lou Limited and Philomena Trawlers owned the boats skippered by Mark Frood and Craig Petre.

The firms have each been fined £20,000 with costs of £500.

Froode and Petre did not have a licence and have been fined £15,000 and £12,000 respectively and must also pay more than £23,000 and £22,000 in compensation to the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.
