Man banned from the Island for being 'annoying'

39-year-old described as 'becoming a drain on the state'

A former Peel resident will be excluded from the Isle of Man for five years after admitting being disorderly on licensed premises.

Krists Bergmanis, of Marine Parade, pleaded guilty during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse.

The 39-year-old had been in the Creek Inn in Peel, at around 8:30pm on 31 March, when he was seen ‘annoying members of the public’.

He was ejected from the pub but was seen ‘prowling around’ the street outside.

The court heard that Bergmanis is currently unemployed, having come to the Island to find work on a fishing boat, with the prosecutor describing him as 'becoming a drain on the state'.

Magistrates were told he would be unable to pay any fines imposed and would instead carry out days in custody in default.

Bergmanis’ advocate told the court her client clearly has an issue with alcohol adding: “He is ready to make a change in his life.”

Fining Bergmanis £900 Magistrates told him he'd serve 67 days at the Isle of Man Prison if it wasn't paid.
