Sentenced to 16 weeks - suspended for two years
A man who ordered over £400 cannabis bush online and had it posted to his home address has been sentenced to 16 weeks custody, suspended for two years.
29 year old Kevin James Crellin appeared before the Deputy High Bailiff.
The court heard the three packages had been identified by police sniffer dogs at the Southern sorting office on the 18th of August.
The packages, which were all addressed to Crellin, were found to contain plant matter later identified as Cannabis bush.
A later search of Crellin's address discovered cannabis resin and diazepam tablets and he was arrested for possession.
His advocate said Crelllin took the drugs for pain relief following an industrial accident . . and they were all for personal use.
The attempt to import the drugs could best be described as "naieve" and there had been no effort to avoid detection.
He said Crellin had no previous convictions for drug offences, had self-referred to his GP with respect to his use of diazapam and had been fully co-operative with police.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said whilst she believed Crellin was of good character, people who brought drugs into the Isle of Man could expect custodial sentences.
