Man left unresponsive after assault

A court's heard a man stamped on a man's head during a violent attack on Douglas promenade.

Twenty-two-year-old James Gerard Maginn of Oak Avenue in Douglas appeared before Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks at Douglas courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm, and prosecution advocate Roger Kane withdrew a charge of using provoking behaviour.

The court heard witnesses called police at around 11:45pm on 30 May after Maginn pushed another man to the ground.

When the man got back up, Maginn threw him down again – getting on top of him and punching him repeatedly.

The hearing was told he tried to choke the man during the sustained attack before stamping on his head.

When police arrived, his victim was unresponsive with serious head injuries.

There was no application for bail and Mr Brooks remanded Maginn in custody to appear in court again on 28 October.
