Manx Care offers condolences following inquest into man's death

"Mr Shimmin is very much at the forefront of our minds"

Manx Care and the Department of Health and Social Care are expressing their condolences, following an inquest into the death of a man who died due to a lack of oxygen to his heart.

The health body notes at the time of the events leading to the 55-year-old’s death, Noble’s Hospital was being operated by the DHSC.

James Shimmin’s death prompted an internal investigation with a series of recommendations made, all of which – the health body says – were fully accepted and plans drawn up to see them implemented.

Alongside this investigation, further proposals were set out including hiring the Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) to carry out external accreditation of its operating theatres in September 2022.

That’s something the health body says the Coroner was satisfied with in respect of the prevention of future deaths.

Manx Care says Mr Shimmin remains very much at the forefront of their minds.
