Manx Care recommends charges for GP appointments and A&E visits

'Last resort' cost-cutting methods revealed

A researcher believes some cost-saving recommendations by Manx Care - that's supported by the Department of Health and Social Care is just a 'diktat' by the department.

The measures, outlined in the department's financial plans, were submitted to Treasury in July last year.

It includes introducing prescription charges, ceasing surgical procedures on patients with a body mass index over 30 and introducing charges for all face-to-face and home GP appointments, among others.

Andrew Martin submitted Freedom of Information requests for the financial plans of all government departments.

He told Manx Radio's Chanelle Sukhoo that if any of these measures are implemented, there could be 'unforeseen consequences':

The day after he published the responses, government issued a press release to media outlets titled 'Improved Transparency around the Budget-setting Process'.

It says the release of all the plans is being used as an opportunity to establish greater openness and transparency.

Manx Radio's Christian Jones sat down with Treasury Minister Alex Allinson:

You can find the full Freedom of Information response HERE.

Manx Radio contacted government for a response.
