Harmer says rebate payment is company's choice

Manx Gas claims government 'u-turned' by abandoning negotiations over a new agreement.

In a video released online, the company says customers have now been left in the dark about prices after Tynwald voted to impose statutory regulation.

Manx Gas previously said it would reimburse customers with a backdated payment on 2020 bills while a new pricing structure was agreed.

But with a voluntary deal now dead in the water, Policy and Reform Minister Ray Harmer says it's up to the company, not government, to fulfill that promise.

In February, Tynwald members voted to rebalance gas prices for customers and impose new regulations by the end of April.

The Communications and Regulatory Utilities Authority has been asked to bring forward the regulation.
