Manx Utilities set to hike sewerage rate by 5.7%

From April 2024, the rise will match current inflation

Manx Utilities is expected to hike sewerage rates by 5.7 percent from April 2024.

The rise is tied to match with September's inflationary figure, which makes it one of the lowest percentile increases over the past 20 months - the lowest seen in August.

As a result, the MUA forecasts an £800,000 increase in revenue, but means domestic households on average will pay an extra £19 per year.

All of this is subject to Tynwald approval and politicians will have the chance to accept or reject the proposals in December.

In 2018, the court agreed the rate would increase by Manx CPI up to April 2023, but for further increases to be applied, this motion is required to be returned back to Tynwald.

The authority says tariffs will 'generally' be increased by inflation for 2024 but that it requires an additional 12 months to review its pricing strategy due to 'significant volatility in wholesale energy markets' over the past two years.
