Manx woman charged with smuggling heroin in Jersey

35-year-old remanded in custody until January

A 35-year-old woman from the Isle of Man will spend Christmas in prison on Jersey.

Tara Lei-Cowell has been accused of smuggling up to £360,000 worth of heroin.

She, and co-accused Michael Stephen Clohessy from Liverpool, was refused bail when she appeared in the Channel Island's Magistrates Court this morning (27 October).

The duo was arrested on Sunday following an intelligence-led investigation involving the Crown Dependency's Customs and States Police.

Both have been charged with importing a controlled drug.

Ms Cowell is also accused of smuggling the class C drug Pregablin.

Relief magistrate David Le Cornu remanded the pair in custody until 7 January.
