'Ball firmly in Manx Care's court'
The Isle of Man Medical Society says it stands in ‘solidarity’ with nursing colleagues who will strike tomorrow (Thursday).
It’s backed the Royal College of Nursing’s decision to take industrial action saying senior managers within Manx Care are continually failing to recognise nurses ‘enormous value’.
Members of the RCN will walk out for 12 hours from 8am.
The medical society adds: “We are disappointed that Manx Care has not entered into meaningful discussions about the pay and working conditions of nurses, doctors and other healthcare staff while continuing to push our health service further into decline.
“On the background of a recruitment and retention crisis of nursing and medical staff, it is imperative that Manx Care enter meaningful negotiations in good faith to improve pay, terms and working conditions for all staff.
“How much worse must the situation get before Manx Care gets to grips with the crisis and shows nurses that it genuinely values them? The ball is firmly in their court.”
Manx Radio has invited Manx Care to respond to the Isle of Man Medical Society.
Manx Care has previously said it remains open to discussions with union members but continues to insist options are limited due to financial constraints adding any further pay offer is impossible and would put the organisation in breach of its financial regulations.
