MHKs support calls for choice over House of Keys prayers

Douglas South MHK's amendment means members could sit out prayers

MHKs could be able to sit out prayers at the start of House of Keys sittings if they don't want to take part.

A report had recommended dropping prayers altogether, but Douglas South member Sarah Maltby made an amendment, asking that in principle members be free to choose whether they participate or not.

She also asked the House of Keys management committee to consider how to bring this principle into affect.

Her amendment was backed 17 votes in favour, six against, before the amended motion was approved with just three votes against.
