Vote followed near-two hour debate in House of Keys

Politicians have voted to form a committee to look at the clauses of the Assisted Dying Bill.

The motion was brought to the House by Onchan MHK Rob Callister, with 13 members voting for, and 11 against.

He called for a committee of five members to consider and report by the end of February 2024.

The committee will be made up of: David Ashford, Rob Callister, Alex Allinson, Michelle Haywood and Lawrie Hooper.

A separate amendment from Dr Haywood opening the committee up to the entire house was squashed.

She had asked that 'once proposed and seconded, each of the Clauses of the Assisted Dying Bill 2023 shall stand referred to a Committee of the House under SO 4.4A.'
