MLC questions whether e-scooters can be insured

DoI says new legislation is still being drafted

Concerns have been raised about whether it will be possible to insure e-scooters on the Isle of Man.

MLC Peter Greenhill told Tynwald last week that the Finance Agency – which is part of the Department for Enterprise – has been approached by the insurance sector.

He’s asked the Department of Infrastructure to meet with insurers before regulations permitting their use are brought before the court later this year.

Minister Tim Crookall told the court legislative drafters are undertaking a final review of the documentation.

But Douglas North MHK David Ashford said the process had 'gone on forever and ever':

Last week police confirmed there had been a serious injury crash involving the rider of an electric scooter with officers adding their use remains illegal on the Island.
